Applications to the court for financial support are most often made by disabled or illegitimate children.

Other potential applicants include:

1. A dependant ex-spouse who was receiving maintenance at the time of death;

2. Children living with the deceased;

3. A separated supported spouse;

4. The current spouse;

5. Cohabitee of more than 2 years;

6. Any person who received regular financial assistance.
